D. The decontamination areas are described below
1. Clean Room: In this room, persons remove and leave all street clothes and put on clean disposable coveralls. Approved respiratory protection equipment is also clean, stored, and picked up in this area. NO CONTAMINATED ITEMS ARE PERMITTED IN THIS ROOM. Contamination control flooring shall be placed on the floor of this room and immediately outside of this room. The clean room may not be used for waste storage but can be used for waste transfer to carts, which are stored outside the clean room in a designated holding area.
2. Shower Room: This is a separate room used for transit by cleanly dressed people entering the job site from the Clean Room and for showering by them after they have undressed in the Equipment Room. THIS IS A CONTAMINATED AREA. Hot and cold water controlled at the tap must be provided. The floor of the shower room shall be covered with a waterproof seamless 1/4" mat (neoprene, rubber, or equivalent) which extends a minimum of twelve inches up each wall. The Contractor shall provide a second rubber protection mat under the entire shower room.
3. Equipment Room: Work equipment, footwear, and all other contaminated work clothing are left here. This is a change and transit room for people. All areas between the Shower Room and the work area shall be considered part of the Equipment Room. Plastic floor and wall covering is required. THIS IS A CONTAMINATED AREA.
E. Respirator filters shall be removed when wet and treated as contaminated waste.
F. There shall be no smoking, eating, or drinking in any contaminated areas (Shower Room, Equipment Room, and Work Area). Respirators shall be worn in all contaminated areas.
G. Any worker footwear and warm outer clothing shall remain inside the contaminated area until the completion of the job, after which they shall be disposed of as contaminated wasted.
H. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to provide a temporary connection for piping, hoses, etc., as required for hot and cold water. Provisions shall be made to adequately dispose of shower water.
I. Electricity is required for temporary lighting, heating, etc., of change room and shower areas. The Contractor shall provide all necessary temporary electrical fixtures. Temporary connections shall be made into existing facilities by the Contractor. In addition, a sufTicient number of outlets shall be made available for the Owner's air monitoring personnel for the test equipment.
J. A designated holding area at the work site shall:
1. Be secured and maintained as a holding area contiguous with a waste decontamination enclosure system as specified herein, and
2. Be appropriately sized for waste generatiotvand
3. Conform to applicable Department of Sanitation regulations, and
