3. According to the Washington Post, the EPA did not release more troubling data until after the nonprofit New York Environmental Law and Justice Project filed a Freedom of Information Request. These tests reportedly fotmd elevated levels of dioxin, PCBs, lead and chromium in the air, soil, and water around the site. Do these “troubling” results reveal dangerous health risks to the public? Levels of some substances have been elevated at the WTC site. This is why it is imperative that workers on the site must wear respirators. The DOH ordered respirators and provided 24-hr. respirator fit testing at the site. Although not available from the first few days, elevated levels of these substances outside of the site have not been found.
