. The environmental and public health issues refulring from the attacks of September 11* •t

have no precedent in the experience ofthis Agency or of tire federal government. Despite the challenges EPA freed and frees, X am proud ofthe work our dedicai^ employees have done in response to the attack on our Nation. Nevertheless. Z also believe there are areas where we can improve. That is why we have been reviewing and evaluating our efforts to date and why I am committed to working with you and your colleagues to ensure tiut should we face a similar situation in ths future, we will have frUy integrated the lessons we’ve learned from this erqperienee.

I know- we aS share the same goal * to protect, as best as we possibly can, tire people of the United States from the environmental hazards which may exist following a terrorist attack. You have my pledge that we at EPA win continue to work as hard as we can to meet that obligation to the people of New York and to be ready to meet it should the need arise in the future.

Youn sincerely. r/z Christine Todd Whitman
