FYI - Below are two issues raised at this morning's WTC Recovery - Contractor's Coordination I Meeting. Geri Kelpin has additional information on the low-sulfur fuel. I believe its use is limited to the Ground Zero area and the vehicles used to haul material to the Fresh Kills Landfill.
Subsequent to this meeting, I received a call from DOS requesting the repair to a hydrant on the west side of West Street, north of Chambers St, by the entrance to Pier 25 where the barges are being filled with debris from Ground Zero. I understand that because this hydrant is not operational, a fire hose of several hundred feet, had to be laid from near the comer of Chambers and West Streets to the barge operation at Pier 25. The concern is to move as much disturbance away from Stuyvesant H.S. and PS 89 as possible.

The two DEP concerns that were brought up at the DDC contractors meeting this morning 1- F.D. is requesting activation of more hydrants on West Street south of Vesey. The issue is expected to be addressed at the weekly utility meeting scheduled for 10:00 on Friday 02-01-02. Pete Rinaldi ( DDC ) advised me that DEP is aware of request and is working with LERA who has been hired to consult on the West Street restoration project. 2- DDC made everyone in attendance aware that an Emergency Declaration may stipulate the use of low sulphur diesel fuel. This is now being reviewed / considered.
