Subject: Meeting with Residents of Lower Manhattan
Dear Mr. Ryan,
On June 11, 2002 the United States Environmental Protection Agency met
with representatives from communities in lower Manhattan to discuss
issues related to the World Trade Center cleanup effort. In the course
of the conversation, as a side note, the community members expressed
concern over pollution from mobile sources. Specifically, they were
concerned with pollution emanating from idling buses, trucks, and
construction equipment in the area.
The EPA agreed to schedule a small informal meeting with
representatives
from the Air Programs Branch and Public Outreach Branch to answer
health
related questions. In order to answer questions relating of air issues
in the city, the EPA is inviting representatives of the New York State
Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York City
Department of Environmental Protection.
Such a meeting would be scheduled for late August to ensure that
representatives from all agencies would have time to prepare
adequately.
Please respond to this message to let me know if either you or a
representative from your office would be able to attend such a meeting
and, if so, please provide availability information to assist in
scheduling.
Best Regards,
Ben Barry
