NYC 9/11 Public Portal Document Men take lead in Trade Ctr. health registry By LISA L. COLANGELO DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER More men than women have signed up for the World Trade Center Health Registry, accord- ing to a report released this week by the Department of Health. Most of the people are from Manhattan, in their 40s, and lived, worked or were passing by the area south of Chambers St. on Sept. 11, 2001. The Health Department is just starting to look at the demo- graphics of people participating in the program, which aims to track health effects of the Sept. 11 attack over the next 20 years. "The more people that enroll, the more accurate and compre- hensive the registry's findings will be," Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden said. Almost 15,000 people have signed up for the registry. The re- port released yesterdaylooks at the 6,313 people who completed a 30-minute telephone survey in September. Fifty-three percent of enroll- ees are male, and 47% are female. The majority of participants — 1,533 — are from Manhattan, while 1,069 are from Brooklyn.
