Provision of Flu Vaccine to High-Risk New Yorkers On November 16, Commissioner Cohen asked New York City•corporations with supplies of flu vaccine intended for healthy workers to assist the Health Department's the flu. efforts to provide vaccine to those who are at highest risk from complications from persons With a previously announced nationwide vaccine delay preventing some elderly Department is coordinating an and others at high risk from getting vaccinated, the Health effort to get flu shots to those who need it most.

The Department has surveyed nursing homes and other facilities to determine whether high-risk people, including the elderly and those with serious illnesses are receiving flu shots early in the season, as recommended. In order to insure that high-risk populations are immunized, the Department is making more than 14,000 doses of its vaccine available to nursing home residents. Employers with flu vaccine supplies intended for healthy workers were asked to join the Department in the effort to help improve the health outlook of vulnerable New Yorkers.

Companies such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, Executive Health Group, Citigroup, and AXA Financial have together made over 2,500 doses of flu vaccine available to the Department. This vaccine, along with the doses from the Department, will individuals. State Comptroller Audits On November 2, the Office of the State Comptroller sent a letter to Commissioner announcing that an audit has been scheduled of the Department Health's "oversight activities in ensuring the health and safety of children in day c7 facilities." The entrance conference for this audit will take place on December 1. State Comptroller is also conducting audits of DOH monitoring of HIV Preveni contracts and of DOH inspections of food service establishments. The draft report f HIV audit is expected in December.
