OENHP SAMPLING DATA — Gathered 10-02-01
Proprietor: Operating Engineers National Hazmat Program
Contact: Bruce Lippy, 410-916-0359 (cell), [email protected]; OR Jeana Harrison, 304-284-
9129, [email protected]
Date and Time: 9/27/01
Substance: Total dust, inorganic acid gases, VOCs, heavy metals
Matrix: Air (filters, charcoal tubes, and silica gel)
Locations: Various, generally on or near WTC piles
Name of Laboratory: Galson Laboratories
Date and Time of Analysis: 9/28/01
Analysis Results: See attached Excel File (OENHP Sampling Results 10-02-01.xls)
Result Units: for total dust: mg/m3
for VOC: mg/m3 (except for blank, which is in µg)
for inorganic acid gases: mg/m3 and ppm (see file)
for heavy metals: mg/m3 and ppm (see file) (blanks listed in µg)
Analysis method: for total dust: NMAM 0500 (gravimetric)
for VOC: NMAM 3700 (multiple VOCs)
for inorganic acid gases: NMAM 7903; ICP
for heavy metals: modified NMAM 7300; ICP
Detection Limit: total dust: 0.15 mg
VOCs, inorganic acid gases, and heavy metals: vary according to compound
Standard: PEL: total dust (particulate not otherwise regulated): 15 mg/m3
VOC's, inorganic acid gases, and heavy metals: vary according to compound
Interpretation:
• The total dust sample was below the PEL.
• All VOCs, inorganic acids, and heavy metals were less than the limit of quantification,
with the exception of sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid (0.3 mg/m3) was not corrected for the
blank at the lab. The sample is still less than the PEL of 1 mg/m3 without the correction.
