1 Title: Comments Dataset
2 Scope
2.1 This document describes the appropriate reasons for entiy of comments to the
comments dataset. There are other ways to comment data in the datasets,
including the MAD book (QUAL0030) and the methods dataset (QUAL0040).
2.2 This document also describes the procedures to be followed to enter a comment,
either using the attached form, or using a networked file.
3 Purpose
3.1 Utilization of the Comments dataset began in approximately August, 1996. The
intended purposes of the comments dataset are:
3.1.1 To record the usage of laboratories other than the DWQC laboratory in the district
of the sample collected, including the usage of contract laboratories.
3.1.2 To comment on the quality of specific data points, including but not limited to, out
of control duplicate samples, out of control spike samples, and high blank results.
3.1.3 To highlight the usage of an uncertified method. The usage of uncertified methods
is also indicated in the Methods dataset.
3.1.4 To record sample data that has been found to be a probable outlier.
4 Responsibilities
4.1 Analytical staff
4.1.1 Analytical staff members are responsible for identifying samples that require
comment.
4.1.2 Analytical staff members are to prepare the comment forms and submit them to
Supervisory staff for approval.
4.2 Supei-visory staff
4.2.1 Supervisory staff members are to review and approve comments submitted by
Analytical staff.
4.2.2 Supervisory staff members are to identify sample results requiring comment
during the data review process. For these data. Supervisory staff members are to
write the comment.
4.2.3 Supervisors are responsible for making certain the Data Coordinator receives all
comments.
4.3 QA staff
4.3.1 QA staff members are to review the comments on a periodic basis.
