A backwashable carbon tank and a prefilter is at the beginning of the whole system. 5.1.7 Waste disposal system: Biohazard waste is disposed of in red biohazard bags which are then placed in biohazard boxes and labeled. These boxes are stored in the facility garage downstairs and are picked up on a regular monthly basis by a NYC contracted waste disposal firm. 5.1.8 Safety considerations: Lab coats, goggles and double gloves are used during all sample processing. The lab benches are cleaned periodically throughout the work day and at the end of each work day with 70% ethanol. Mercury and chemical spill kits are located at the entrance to the lab room.

6 Field Sampling Procedures

6.1 For more detailed field sampling procedures, refer to Pathogen Program Field Collection S.O.P. 6.2 Routine keypoint samples collected for the ICR method are the influents and effluents of Kensico Reservoir: CATALUM, DEL 17, CATLEFF and DELI8, and the effluent of Croton Resen'oir, CROGH. 6.3 Samples are collected and transported as described in the ICR sampling manual.

6.4 The sampling apparatu.s i.s assembled, water pressure adjusted to less than or equal to 30 psi and flushed with 20 gallons of water. After the system is flushed and emptied, a filter is placed in the filter housing. At least 26 gallons is filtered at less than or equal to 30 psi and at a flow rate of 1 gpm. The filter is then packaged per ICR instmctions, placed in a cooler with ice packs (initial internal cooler temperature equals 0°C), and shipped by ovemight deliveiy to the laboratoiy. 6.5 Samples aie identified as CATALUM, DELI7, CATLEFF, DELI8, or CROGH. Field personnel write these site names on the chain of custody sheets. This information is then transfeiTed into the laboratoiy logbook as a pennanent record.

7 Laboratory Sample Handling Procedures

7.1 When a sample is received, the sample is given the next available number in the Pathogen Lab Log Book and logged in. The paperwork for the sample is unpacked, dated, the time received recorded, given the appropriate sample number and is then placed in the sample paperwork binder. The number given to the sample is also put on the sample packaging. The sample is stored in the
